Kitchen Colours for 2019

Traditionally, the kitchen was the centre of the home. It was the place where the family gathered to share the day’s events, enjoy fabulous home-cooked meals while telling tales and simply enjoying each other’s company. Unfortunately, the digital age of computers, mobile phones and smart TVs moved us out of that cosy realm into other areas of the house, which are not nearly so inviting.

Gladly, that trend has reversed itself within the past few years as families have begun migrating back to that central meeting place. Where once again a family could be a family, sans the electronics. Colour trends are now reflecting this focus on family life around the table. So what does 2019 have in store for us? This is what our expert designers at C.K.P have found and are forecasting for the year ahead.

Colour Bursts for Dramatic Effects

Before actually getting into colours trending in 2019, a word needs to be said about the artistic use of colour bursts. Most appliances are white, black or stainless steel with worktops being light hardwood or white. This makes for a dull, lifeless kitchen in the eyes of today’s interior decorators and so they have begun using what they are calling bursts of colour – the brighter the better.

According to the executive director of Pantone Colour Institute in the United States, bold colours bring energy with them and what better choice could there be for those dramatic colour bursts than beautifully bold colours?

Which Bold Colours are Trending This Year?

This is where our design experts at C.K.P would like you to think carefully about the use of trending colours. From Corals to tropical, reds, oranges and even neon yellow, the bolder the colour the trendier the appeal. Unfortunately, it all depends on the layout of your home and the colour schemes in nearby rooms.

If you can see the kitchen from the living room, for example, and the living room is done up in rustic oranges and browns, you wouldn’t really want a purple or blue kitchen bleeding through to other rooms. Your choice of bold colours may have an impact on adjoining rooms. Colours visually bleeding through may create discord rather than harmony. You want colours to move smoothly from one room to the next. That’s important.

What Colours Strike You as Bold?

With all of that in mind, it’s time to think about what you consider to be bold but not too bold to blend well as you work your way through the home. Of course, if your kitchen is located in such a way as to be almost totally removed from the rest of the living space, you can almost go in any direction you’d like with colour. Having said that, what colours strike your fancy as being bold enough to create a dramatic effect? The key point here is that any colour besides muted pastels can be bold, so the choice is yours!
